Craig has always had a passion for drawing since he was a child. “I used to redraw all of my coloring book pages just to color them in again.” Craig is a veteran of the US Army, He joined at 17, served 4 years and did two tours overseas. He has over 11 years experience in tattooing. He actually started at the shop he now co-owns with his wife Jen in 2006 back then the shop was Sacred Skin. He is one of the few tattoo artists that can create color portraits in the Des Moines area. His favorite style is his own, but is experienced in all styles of tattooing. “When I first started tattooing I noticed that ALL of the “good” artists in the area were only focusing on one style. While they continued to pidgin hole themselves into one genre, I started studying them all dissecting each into their basic components and working on one component at a time, honing my craft into what you see today.” He has been featured in Cranial Visions by Mike Devries. His work has also been featured in the comedy "Zach & Miri Make a Porno", and recently on Frank Hannon from Tesla”s latest album cover.
A Bird In The Hand…
I did my first tattoo at 15 years old and was hooked, after I graduated high school I started tattooing on a daily basis, but at the time there weren't very many tattooers around so I was self taught by reading the Spaulding and Rogers Tattooing A-Z Guide originally published in 1988. I was re-taught the art of Tattooing by Lucky Anderson, given the name Cool-Aid, and that's when I gained momentum in what a tattoo can actually be. The evolution of tattooing was crazy, it went from the typical ideal of biker tats to works of art with color theory and premeditated compositions. I quickly learned that you can take this craft with you around the world and back. I first started tattooing in Holland, then France, Germany,Thailand, Greece, the list goes on and on. When I lived in east Europe I went through a period where I couldn't legally tattoo, it's a very difficult thing to have what you know and love be taken from you, so I honed in my skills as an animator and became a professor of 3d animation at the Art Academy of Novo Gorica Italy. I loved where I was in life, but because of my family situation we decided to move to Luxembourg Europe. Again I was in a position where I couldn't tattoo legally. Because of my situation and where I was I started collaborating with different creatives and have made animated shorts for various projects, one of which was selected as best of 2018 Sundance Film Festival, Tamy's Tiny Tea Time. As everything goes though, it truly does come full circle, Im now back in the USA with complete freedom to tattoo!
Adam has been working as a tattooer and visual artist for just over 15 years in and around the Des Moines area. And not too many people know this but he was one of the original owners of 5 Point Studios. He also has Co-owned Pink Elephant, and Bigfoot Tattoo. He likes to tattoo different styles and tries not to pidgeon-hole himself into any one type of tattooing. “I respect traditional tattooing and try to uphold the aesthetics and craft side of traditional as best I can, as well as venture into other non-traditional techniques without compromising the stability of the tattoos longevity”. He is open to the clients input into their own tattoo and tries to give them what they want as well as exceed their expectations. “I use intuition in the design of all tattoos as well as years of experience. I work best when the client completely trusts in my skills, while working together to get the best possible outcome.”
Chris has been professionally tattooing for over 4 years and has been in the industry for over 6. His main focus in his career is to maintain a consistent level of growth within his artistic ability while providing the best possible tattoo experience he can. In the time he has spent honing his craft he has became very comfortable doing various styles, particularly enjoying bringing traditional elements of tattooing to a more modern style of the craft.
